Based on the title of one of her favorite hymns, Elisabeth Elliot offers a beautiful and inspiring collection of insightful reflections on living the Christian life. Drawing from her rich personal experiences as a missionary, a wife, a mother, a widow, and a speaker, Elliot illustrates biblical concepts such as hope, peace, and prayer with clarity and grace.

This was a great read. Even though I don't consider myself to be going through any particular difficult trials, I got so much encouragement from this book about being content with whatever God gives me. The way Elisabeth Elliot wrote this book made me feel like I was sitting down for coffee, being mentored by her, every time I picked it up.
The main topics are about contentment, acceptance, peace, and learning to trust and be thankful for any situation God gives us, and to remember He is sovereign over every little detail. One of my favorite quotes from this book is: "God never allows anything to happen to us, that isn't also for us."
I've already bought an extra copy for a friend, and recommended it to others!

Be Still My Soul Embracing God Purpose and Provision in Suffering (Audible Audio Edition) Nancy Guthrie editor Sharilynn Dunn Kelly Ryan Dolan Oasis Audio Books Reviews

This was better than I expected! By collecting writings from various great sources, Nancy Guthrie has provided a real gem. I have been a Christian for years and enjoy a deep daily relationship with my Savior, so I thought this book might have some nice ideas to hand to others. Instead, this has been tremendously encouraging to me; I am realizing more and more what a privilege it is to suffer with Christ. I have found THE book to give to believers who are in the midst of pain.
The best minds tackle serious suffering, and leave you empowered. This is a highly studied and experienced area for me, and much/most was fully new.

Very rich info.

If you are an atheist understand this has a theistic core and is Christian in world view. Though some pearls for many philosophies.
Must have at a woman/wife/mother's bedside for evening or early morning deep seeking. Inspired to buy this book after my third son's birth and read during my maternity leave. I won't re-sell it, I wont' give it away. A book to be revisited in progressive seasons of life. It lead me to cry out to the Lord with my deepest concerns, needs for renewal, joys, celebrations and longings that are really too mysterious for other human beings. No nonsense, bottom line God's-Word-meets-reality-in-life, true Elisabeth Elliot style.
Whether one is a Christian or not, we all will pass thru this life with pain and suffering. To the Christian, pain and suffering are not random acts. They are front and center in shaping/transforming us into Christ's likeness. Therefore, we agree with the apostle Paul in rejoicing in pain and suffering for they are producing weighty and lasting glory in God. I highly recommend this book to any authentic Christian (anyone who go against the heal-wealth-prosperity preachers).
I bought this book as a small gift for my mother when my grandmother passed away. I thought it would help her. She told me how much she loved it, and that she in turn purchased a copy for her brother. A few weeks later I realized that maybe I needed to read the book, so I bought another copy. I loved it. It doesn't beat around the bush, or tell you that everything will be "ok", or say that your loved one is "better off". What it DOES do, is help you to think about life moving forward, and how you can accomplish that life with your loved one in your own spirit.

I can't say enough about it. Nevermind flowers. The next time you have a close friend who loses someone... this book is an inexpensive yet incredibly thoughtful GIFT.
I have been recommending this book to everyone! It is so important to have a theology of suffering, even before going through it. The selected readings are poignant and make for great discussion pieces with friends and family. Thank you for putting together these essays and for the encouragement we can find in suffering with Christ.
You can't go wrong with E.Elliot. Her experience qualifies her as someone who understands suffering and endurance. Her wlse words and calm, no-nonsense approach gives you peace in your storm. Theologically sound and filled with quiet wisdom, this will help you through your darkest days.
